Whitewater kayaking is the core of Telford Canoe Club. Simply put, it’s the art of navigating a craft down a fast moving river. If there was a comparison with other sports, it would be like a river version of skiing.
Just like skiing, whitewater kayaking is a gravity based sport, but with participants working as a group to make their way down stream making the most of the features they encounter on the way. It’s a great way to spend time outdoors at all times of the year, and it’s a pastime that can take you all over the world if you want it to.
Whitewater kayaking can be as mellow or extreme as you like, and aside from river trips there are also different subsets of it, including the dynamic tricks of freestyle and the technical competition of slalom. Despite the images you might have seen of participants launching themselves off waterfalls, whitewater kayaking is graded from two to five, with five being the highest grade, and two being the easiest. Whitewater kayaking at Telford Canoe Club is suitable for all abilities, whether you want to simply spend a chilled out day on the river or you want to push yourself, with trips being run to suit different skill levels and experience.
During the summer months we run regular evening sessions at Jackfield rapids near Telford where we have full parking facilities next to the river. From your first steps in controlling your boat, to your first kayak roll, Telford Canoe Club is well placed with its experienced guides and coaches to help you embark on your kayaking journey.
