Standup paddleboarding is one of the most popular watersports in the world, and it’s quickly gaining even more popularity due to it’s ease of access for new participants.

Standup paddleboarding was born out of surfing, with its modern origins coming out of Hawaii in the early 1900’s, although it can trace its true origins as far back as 3000BC in different portions of the world. Modern standup paddleboarding consists of standing on a board, like a very large surfboard, and propelling yourself with a long paddle.
Paddleboarding is an incredibly varied sport, with participants being able to enjoy gentle paddles down a flat river, canal or lake, through to surf paddleboarding in the sea, whitewater paddleboarding, racing, and even coastal expeditions and exploring. The most popular type of paddleboard today is inflatable, making them easy to transport and light to carry, although hard composite boards are also available.

Telford Canoe Club make every effort to promote the sport of paddleboarding due to its inclusivity and wide range of participants that can take part. Even on flat water, paddleboarding is a great workout for the body, promoting balance and core strength, but without the sweat of a gym!
